Follow Friday #14

It's time once again for the Feature and Follow Blog Hop hosted by Parajunkee's View and Alison Can Read The Feature and Follow Blog Hop is an excellent chance to connect with other bloggers and answering questions about our favorite books. Here's this week's question:

Q: Have you ever read a book that you thought you would hate -- ? Did you end up hating it? Did you end up loving it? Or would you never do that?

The one that comes to mind was Cinder by Marissa Meyer. For like almost a year I put off buying and reading this book because by the synopsis it just didn't interest me. I think it was for a few reasons. While I love fairytales, but Cinderella as a cyborg? At first I was getting it confused with a cyclops. Don't ask why, they are similar in writing and I was trying to wrap my head around the fact and it put me off.
I then discovered what a Cyborg was and I was still hesitant, but after giving up I decided to go for it after seeing many fantastic reviews for this book. My verdict by the end of the book? I could slap myself for being so stupid and not reading it earlier. I loved it. Just goes to show that sometimes what appears on the outside with your own perceptions doesn't always necessary mean it's what you get on the inside of the book.

  1. New GFC follower. I have yet to read that book, same reason. Cinderella as a cyborg kinda freaks me out and just seems unnatural. http://justanotherrabidreader.info

    1. Yeah, it does. But I highly recommend it because it's so much than what we think it is. Surprised the heck out of me.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  3. I think "my" Jen, the co-blogger, recommended Cinder to me several times now, but it's like, once a book is YA, I'm REALLY hard to convinse to start it? Awful. But yeah, I often am very wary and then end up enjoying or liking the titles. :)

    1. Aw that's a shame. I get that way sometimes, but if there is overwelming support for a book.. I'd be more than curious to check it out. I say there is no harm in checking out a few chapters, if I don't like it.. then I haven't wasted much time. If I do like it.. well, then it was worth it.. and in this case, it was the latter. :)

  5. I've been putting off Cinder even though I've read all these amazing reviews. I'm quite scared of it. I don't want to be disappointed by it. New follower :)

    1. I was like that too. The description didn't really appeal to me, but I finally decided to take the chance and was so blown away. The reviews helped that's for sure.

Maybe one of these days you'll take a chance on it as well.

  6. I'm so glad you mentioned Cinder! I won it in a contest a couple of months ago but haven't read it yet. Not because I don't like the concept; I actually think it sounds awesome. And of course, I've seen tons of good reviews. I just haven't had a chance yet due to too many library books and review requests I need to read first. I'm glad you took a chance on something that didn't instantly appeal to you. And then you loved it! It's so great when that happens!

Thanks for visiting. I'm following you back via GFC.

  9. Okay, the Cinderella as a cyclops thing totally made me laugh! Now there's a great book concept lol! I really enjoyed CINDER as well. The sequel, SCARLET, is sitting on my coffee table right now just begging to be read.

  12. The Cyborg part was what made me hesistant about Cinder. And I still haven't read it, but the amount of love I've seen online for that books has coerced me into giving it a go one day

  18. I've not read Cinder yet because I feel a bit iffy about Cinderella as a cyborg- but it's had such brilliant reviews I'm going to have to!

  19. I haven't read Cinder myself. I had the same thoughts you did. Cinderella as a cyborg? I am not big on robots. I am still undecided on that one. Pretty blog! Thanks for stopping by..new GFC follower :)

  20. Not a huge fan of Cinder myself, but I understand why other people like it. I'm more into sci-fi that doesn't include robots, but rather more planetary exploration/social disparities within human or alien cultures. Thanks for visiting my FF, I'm an old GFC follower! :)
